TRAVEL GUIDE to PORTUGAL
This is your ultimate travel guide to Portugal!
CAPITAL: LISBON
Portugal is a place where you need to go to understand its vibe, especially Lisbon. It’s something so out-of-the-ordinary that you need time to adjust to that amazing feeling the city gives you. It’s all about the people over there, their culture of enjoying life, the food, and the Porto Wine, which is one of my top favorite wines in the world.
Portugal has the perfect combination of white sandy beaches, architectural history, rugged coastlines, and incredible vibey nightlife. That vibe you can feel it just by wandering on your own on the streets of Lisbon. Trust me, after half a day you will feel it too.
Portugal is a very affordable destination and safe, making it a great to start your Solo Travel journey.
Lisbon is the major attraction when you say Portugal, but there are other beautiful places to visit. Among my favorites are Porto, Algarve, Lagos, Sintra, and many others. If you like surfing, Portugal is the best place to start.

YOUR TRAVEL GUIDE
European Union: Portugal joined the European Community on 1 January 1986.
Language: The official language in Portugal is Portuguese.
Currency: Portugal is one of the 19 countries in the EU that have euros currency.
Card Payments and Cash Withdrawals:
Like everywhere in the European Union, credit cards are widely accepted everywhere. Keep some cash on you for small purchases, it is always useful.
ATM: An ATM in Portugal is named “multibanco” or “Caixa automatica.” They are easy to find everywhere in the country, you just look around you and you will find a Bank with an ATM.
Connexion: With a national-level network, Go Wi-Fi, free and secure, Portugal is on the rise among the major countries with the fastest free wifi networks in public spaces.
If you are from the EU, roaming is free of charge. You can call and connect to your mobile data as if you were in your country of origin without extra costs.
Railroads: Portugal is not a large country. You can get almost everywhere by train or bus. Regional trains are quite affordable but old and slow in comparison with other European trains. It’s quicker to go by bus, especially on shorter or less obvious routes. Renting a car would be the best option if you go along the coast.
Plugs: Plugs are Type F. Type F has two round pins of 4.8 mm in diameter. The pins are 19 mm long and 19 mm apart. There are two contact areas at the top and bottom of the plug for the earth. The standard voltage is 230V, and the standard frequency is 50Hz.
Best Time to visit
The best time to visit Portugal is in either the spring (March to June) or fall (September to October). There are fewer crowds, prices are lower, and the temperatures are warm.
The summer months are, as all over Europe, the high season. Streets, beaches, and big cities are often crowded. Accommodation prices can increase by 30-40%, so make sure to book in advance.
The rainy season begins in November and a lot of resorts shut down for winter. As temperatures are warmer than in the rest of Europe, we tend to visit Portugal off-season, in January, and February, to have warmer temperatures than the rest of Europe. Like this, we mentally prepare for Spring.
