travel with revolut credit card

Traveling can get quite expensive, I get it. Transportation fees, Accommodation fees, Travel Insurance feed and last but not least, Bank Fees. And these are the ones you can actually limit and I will tell you how in this article.
After spending 4 days in Dubrovnik, I paid 20€ in bank fees. When I saw my bank account with all those transaction fees I did not understand what happened, but then I called my bank and they explained to me that some countries, even in Europe, charge a fee for each transaction. I knew immediately that I need to do something about it. I go on a city break each month and at least 2 long trips on a different continent. After making a quick analysis, I spent more than 300€ on bank fees annually on my travels. With this money, I can pay me another round-trip plane to a European destination. And this really sealed the deal for me. A friend of mine told me how she uses REVOLUT CARD on her travels abroad. I was intrigued and told her I want to try it myself as well.
What is A Revolut card and How Does the Travel Card Work
Using A Revolut Card Abroad
Opening an account on the REVOLUT App is free, and you can also order your physical VISA prepaid debit card to be delivered to your door. If you start with a standard account, you don’t pay anything assuming you don’t go over the limits. I’ve traveled with the travel card for months in Asia and I did not go over the limit, so a standard account is more than enough. The feature I love the most is that Revolut also allows you to hold multiple currencies in your account.
Get the Best Exchange Rate and Pay Zero Commission
When traveling abroad, you’ll have to use foreign currency, therefore you might lose money on different exchange rate practices by local merchants. With the REVOLUT card, you can now exchange currencies in the Revolut app at the real interbank exchange rate. How is that possible? They connect directly to the National Bank of each country and get the official exchange rate. When you exchange money on the app you get the same exchange rate you would get on Google or XE. Just check the photo below to see the results I got by exchanging 1 RON (the Romanian currency) into EUR from my recent travel to Romania. In the first picture, you have my transaction in the REVOLUT app at the exchange rate of 1 RON=0.20€. In the next two pictures, you have the exchange rates on Google and XE of 1 RON=0.20 EUR.
And are there any disadvantages OF USING A REVOLUT CARD?
Every card has its advantages and disadvantages. Dont’s they all?
Sometimes (it is rare but it happens) it is not possible to pay with the card. Never happened to me yet.
Renting companies usually require a credit card when renting a car for example.
How to REGISTER FOR A REVOLUT debit CARD?
You start by installing the App, filling in your personal data, going through some authentication steps, and there you go. You now have a virtual prepaid debit card!
I would suggest registering for the physical card as well. It comes in handy when you travel abroad and need to withdraw cash. All you have to do is indicate in the App that you want to receive a physical card, insert a PIN code of 4 digits to associate it with the card, enter the delivery date and wait for the card to arrive home. The shipping cost is 10€, but if you are using this link HERE you can benefit from free shipping.
