If you want to travel back to the 1950s, Cuba is the perfect destination. Here you will find the classic convertibles lining the streets, old but impressive Spanish facades, and live street music on every corner.
Only when you think of Cuba, you want to book a plane ticket and head directly over there. It’s an impressive country and has a lot to offer.
If you are not so sure yet that you want to pin Cuba on your travel map, here are some interesting facts about Cuba. Cuba is famous for its cigars, its rum made from sugar cane, Salsa and other Cuban dance styles, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, 1950s-era cars, Spanish-colonial architecture, Cuban National Ballet, Buena Vista Social Club, and not to forget Guantanamo Bay.
Cuba is generally a safe country to travel to. It is rare for travelers to experience safety issues in Cuba, although minor crimes like pickpockets, currency scams, or handmade problems on your car to charge you for repair, are not uncommon.

The Caribbean Region is a massive archipelago located in the Caribbean Sea, subdivided into regions: the Lucayan Archipelago, the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles, and the ABC Islands. With 13 sovereign states and 17 dependent territories in the Caribbean, the predominant languages are English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Antillean creole.
Language: The official language of Cuba is Spanish, with about 90% of its population speaking it as their first language. Other languages spoken in the country include Haitian Creole, Lucimi, Galician, and Corsican.
Currency: The official currency of Cuba is the Cuban Peso (CUP) though they also use the Cuban Convertible Peso (CUC).
CARD PAYMENTS AND CASH WITHDRAWALS:
Cuba is primarily a cash economy. Credit cards are accepted in resort hotels and some city hotels. Most non-US-linked VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards are accepted in Cuba, but Visa is more widely spread than MasterCard.
However, no US credit or debit card can be used in Cuba, due to the official embargo between the two states.
Also, you will run into a 3% charge for every payment, so you might want to take a REVOLUT card with you, to eliminate bank fees.
Plugs: In Cuba, the power plugs are type A, B, C, and L. The standard voltage is 110 / 220 V, and the standard frequency is 60 Hz.
Best Time to visit
The sun always shines in the Caribbean.
Tourists come to the tropical islands especially when winter strikes their homeland. The average temperatures are between 23 to 30 degrees Celsius regardless of the season.
However, the country does experience two distinct dry and wet seasons. The dry season runs from December to May, and the wet season runs from June through November.
Cuba may be hit by a hurricane between August and October, so it’s best to avoid the area during this period or check the meteo in advance.
