If you are a fan of Game of Thrones, then for sure you’ve heard at least of Dubrovnik, where some episodes were filmed.
But Croatia is more than a Game of Thrones Tour. Croatia is a beautiful country with amazing coastlines, stunning lakes, and forests, a very rich and fascinating history, fantastic wine, and delicious cuisine. I was positively surprised by the food in Dubrovnik and how nice and cheerful the people are when they serve you. I found the same vibe as in Greece in restaurants.
Croatia is home to stunning Krka National Park and Plitvice Lakes, and beautiful Dubrovnik and Split, the most famous part of the country. Istria region may not be that well known among tourists, but it is heaven for food lovers, with a rich blend of Italian and Slavic heritages and vast Winelands.
Dubrovnik in the summer is very expensive, so make sure to plan ahead or to visit it off-season The other regions are more adapted to budget travelers Even Split has more affordable prices, despite the closeness to Dubrovnik and the level of tourists

European Union: Croatia joined the European Union on 1 July 2013.
Language: The official language in Croatia is Croatian but English, German and Italian are very widely spoken.
Currency: The currency in Croatia is, for now, the Croatian Kuna. The European Union has given Croatia the green light to begin using the euro. The country will join 19 other EU member states that use the euro currency. It will adopt the currency from 1 January 2023, making Croatia the latest nation to join the eurozone since Lithuania in 2015.
Card Payments and Cash Withdrawals:
You can pay with international credit cards everywhere, starting from 1€. Some restaurants might impose a minimum payment of 10€. You can split the bill on different cards.
While all the cards are accepted, VISA, Mastercard, and American Express, you will see that you are being charged a fee by your bank for each transaction After 4 days in Dubrovnik, I paid 20€ in bank fees.
You might want to take a REVOLUT card with you, to eliminate bank fees.
ATM: they are easy to find everywhere in the country, you just look around you and you will find a Bank with an ATM.
Connexion: The Internet is at a very good speed, with 5G. Wi-Fi connection everywhere you go, free or on demand in some restaurants or hotels.
If you are from the EU, roaming is free of charge. You can call and connect to your mobile data as if you were in your country of origin without extra costs.
Railroads: Traveling around Croatia is easy. Good infrastructure and public transport system, bus and ferry networks are efficient and reliable, roads are in great condition, and the extensive network of multilane motorways connects the north with south and east with west.
Plugs: Plugs are Type C and F. The standard voltage is 230V, and the standard frequency is 50Hz.
Best Time to visit
October to April is Croatia’s low season, making it an excellent choice for budget travelers. However, you’ll find empty resorts and beaches, as they close off-season. Instead, you can explore popular destinations like Dubrovnik which is very pricy during the season, or the capital, Zagreb.
The high season in Croatia is from June to August, as in all other European destinations. The weather is perfect, lots of tourists, vibrant terraces, good music, and food.
