10 REASONS WHY SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL IS A NORMAL THING
Solo female travel is absolutely normal these days!
I’ve been traveling alone since 2014 and I’ve traveled to many countries on my own since then. And it’s a perfect thing. Don’t let anyone tell you a different story and make you feel ashamed that you are not at home with your husband and children, but instead, you are wandering the world on your own. On your own terms!
Just in case you still have doubts, here is my list of 10 reasons why solo traveling is fun and normal.
1. Solo Traveling is character-building
Traveling alone can be very challenging and frightening sometimes. Going on a Solo Female Travel is not something to be ashamed of, or feel abandoned and alone. Traveling alone as a Female is something glorious, and powerful, it gives you total freedom, independence, and mental strength. Traveling alone is also character-building as you will shape yourself based on the experiences you’ve lived and the people you’ve met on your journey. Coming from someone who’s dealt with abandonment issues, Traveling alone is the only thing that’s helped me.
2. you discover new cultures
If it’s your first time planning a Solo Trip, you should start with some places that are friendly for Solo Female Travelers and offer you countless adventures that will help you connect with other travelers or locals. Solo traveling is the best way to discover and embrace new cultures. When you are traveling with friends, you will be concentrated only on your group, and you will not be open to new experiences, or new people, as you are when you are traveling on your own.
3. you reinvent yourself
Going on a Solo Female trip is a fantastic way to know yourself deeper, reinvent yourself, be honest with yourself, and most importantly, do whatever you like at your own pace.
When you travel alone as a woman, you are the most vulnerable, as you can rely only on yourself. There’s no man around you to rescue you. And being only with yourself 24/7 can be challenging for many of us. Especially for us, women, as we tend to be super intense about everything. I was in the same situation. I still am, I guess. I always kept myself occupied when I was alone because I was so scared of facing ME, facing my inner self, and my own thoughts. Until someone told me that I don’t know how to be my best friend. It was like a train hit me. How, to be my own best friend? Is that a thing?
Well, let me tell you that it’s a very real thing. And going by yourself, on a Solo Female Trip will help you accomplish that: becoming your own best friend.
4. you are the master of your own pace
I enjoy traveling with friends because there is a sense of belonging to a community, accessibility to some activities you wouldn’t do alone, and travel cost reduction, but, of all of the travel experiences I’ve had so far, some of my best memories end experiences are from my Solo Trips.
Why? Because when you Solo Travel you establish your own pace, your rhythm, you don’t have to make concessions. You do whatever you like when you feel like it.
5. it builds your confidence
Traveling alone builds your confidence and your self-esteem. Why? Because when you Solo Travel, you are the most vulnerable, so you open up to what life will bring you. I don’t know, there is something so empowering and liberating about experiencing traveling on your own, that becomes like a drug.
6. you become your own best friend
As I said, when you travel on your own, you are the most vulnerable, as you can rely only on yourself. And being only with yourself 24/7 can be challenging for many of us. I was in the same situation. I always kept myself occupied when I was alone because I was so scared of facing ME, facing my inner self, and my own thoughts. Until someone told me that I don’t know how to be my best friend. It was like a train hit me. How, to be my own best friend? Is that a thing?
Well, let me tell you that it is a very real thing. And going by yourself, on a Solo Trip will help you accomplish that: becoming your own best friend.
7. it’s an empowering experience
I suffered so much in my first year in Paris, being without my friends, as I could not do anything alone.
I did not even go and explore Paris, my dream city, because I did not know how to do it on my own. So, I started by taking a monthly subscription at the cinema, and twice a week, after finishing my job, I would go alone to watch a movie. The first few times I was so ashamed of being alone, I thought everyone is looking at me with pity because I have no friends.
But I soon discovered that other people were going on their own at the cinema and I started to look around at the restaurants and saw that people are eating alone at a restaurant and it is perfectly normal. The next step was to go on my first Solo Trip.
I went only for the weekend. Baby steps, as I told you. And this is how my life changed after I discovered that I am perfectly capable of going on a Solo Trip by myself. It was the most empowering experience in my life.
8. You can be yourself at all times
All of us have different masks when we interact with people around us. We tend to shape our behavior based on our friends, so naturally, you are no longer acting your yourself. You are someone else, someone shaped after your best friends. So, when you travel on your own, you get the freedom to be you. What a relief!
9. Free therapy
Solo traveling gives you space for a lot of self-introspection. You’ll discover you have a little shrink sleeping inside of you which will activate as soon as you wander the streets of a new city or go on a hike on your own. All those unanswered questions will soon find their solution, because, let’s face it, the solution was always inside of you. You just needed to quiet the noises in your head to hear it.
10. More Travelers Are Going on a Solo trip
According to new research from MMGY, one in four travelers plans to travel solo in the next six months with Gen-Z and Millennials leading the way. Due to social media influence, the Solo Travelers niche is anticipated to dominate the global leisure travel market. If before the pandemic, according to Booking.com, only 14% of people were going on a solo trip, now, after the pandemic, 23% say they will be planning a solo trip in the future.
